The marble deposit Hammerunterwiesenthal is located at the B 95 between Bärenstein and Oberwiesenthal in the western Erzgebirge (Ore Mountains). First documentary proofs of marble mining in this region date from the beginning of the 18th century.

The GEOMIN - Erzgebirgische Kalkwerke GmbH currently works in Hammerunterwiesenthal for safe-keeping parts of the mine influenced by historical underground activities.
